Ghost Moments
ANU second year creative coding project, 2022. Clock digital redesign.
Time is frequently described as fleeting, with emphasis placed on living in a singular moment. Traditional representations of time (analogue and digital clocks) often reflect this by only showing the exact present.
The digital redesign: ‘Ghost Moments’ (coded with p5.js) invites the viewer to step away from this pinpoint perspective and instead think of time as a broader accumulation of moments.
Different sized dots (small for seconds, medium for minutes, large for hours) reflect the current time (24hr), however, when the second/minute/hour ticks over, these moments remain and accumulate as ‘ghost moments’. Some ghost moments grow brighter while others fade and eventually dissipate, but all have the opportunity to influence the location of new moments. In this way the redesign reflects how the real-life build up of past experiences creates our present.
